The China-Us Cultural Heritage and Urban Development Forum was held in Philadelphia

China News Service, Philadelphia, August 20 (Reporter Madeleine) On August 20 local time, the "Warm Engagement -- China-Us Cultural Heritage and Urban Development Forum" was held in Philadelphia, a historic and cultural city in the United States. Acting Chinese Consul General in New York Zhao Yumin, Mayor of Philadelphia James Kenney and other officials attended the forum.

In his opening remarks, Zhao said that Philadelphia has played a pioneering role in the development of China-Us relations. In 1973, the Philadelphia Orchestra visited Beijing and Shanghai before the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, becoming the first American orchestra to visit China since the founding of New China. More than 40 years later, the Chinese and American people have established a precious friendship and mutual trust, which is a solid foundation for broader cooperation between the two countries. "Today in Philadelphia, we are discussing the preservation of cultural heritage, and the spirit of cooperation between China and the United States built over the past four decades is the heritage that we should cherish and protect the most," he said.
In his speech, Mr. Kenny said that Philadelphia has maintained close exchanges with China. In 1979, Philadelphia and Tianjin became sister cities, becoming the first pair of sister cities established by China. Chinese (Mandarin) is the third most spoken language in Philadelphia, and the city's Chinatown is the center of the East American Chinese community. As the first World Heritage city in the United States, the forum in Philadelphia will serve as an excellent platform for in-depth exchanges and greater understanding between the two sides. He said that Philadelphia cherishes its friendship and cooperation with China very much and looks forward to continuing to make joint efforts with China to deepen friendship and cooperation.
The two-day forum is co-hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in New York, China Media Group and the City of Philadelphia government. Experts from China and the United States will have in-depth exchanges on the protection and utilization of urban cultural heritage.
Song Heyi, editor-in-chief of China Culture and Media Group, said the forum, which focuses on cultural heritage and urban development between China and the US, is a platform for exchanges and sharing, absorption and reference. I believe that through people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning, China and the United States will benefit each other, help pass on and share the cultural heritage of mankind, and contribute to better urban development.
The two-day forum is co-hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in New York, China Media Group and the City of Philadelphia government. Guo Zhan, Vice president of the Chinese Society of Cultural Relics and President of the World Heritage Research Institute, Zhang Guanghan, Deputy chief planner of the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, Holly Rushmaier, Professor of Computer Science at Yale University, Alan Greenberg, Distinguished Teaching Professor at Drexel University and more than 10 other Chinese and American experts attended the forum.
